i jus tput in new cams and of course i got it dyno tuned. the cams are causing some slight surgong at 1700rpm - 2500 rpm. it dont really bother me as long as its not bad for the car. is this normal with a conservitive grind cam?

i was also wondering if anyone knew if ther is any power to be had after the new bee hive springs break in fully? my builder mentioned it to me. said that the dyno may show a little more power after the cams and new springs break in. also heard this from a couple other people. any truth to this? thanks

What are the cam specs? If they are truly "conservative", there really shouldn't be any surging in that rpm range.

There really isn't much of a "break-in" with modern roller cams and valvesprings like there were in the old days with flat-tappet cams. I wouldn't expect much of a power increase.

specs are 112 intake 118 exhaust i think, im not at home to check.

to be honest i really dont expect any hp increase, but a couple people said this to me so i thought i see if any of you guys knew about it.

Uhh...get back to us with the actual specs...

well im not sure what specs you want, they are a mild stage 1 blower cam.

Cams specs are numbers like: duration @ .050, lift, lobe separation, and intake centerline are a few of the basics....

If you have a blower grind, they generally have minimal overlap so you "should" have a very smooth idle and a generally mild running engine. You won't make good power N/A, as blower cams do a poor job of filling the cylinders on an atmo motor, but it should still run fine. Hopefully that answered your question? :flag:

I have VT stg 1s and no surging...however it seems to "miss" a little -2K sometimes. But only when im going around 45MPH (1500ish) and others under 2K in 4th. Its not a surging though...it NEVER has surged. however I have heard some VT stg 2s before and they surged. What is the lift? My lift is .550. Other specs are unknown...they didnt give me a card.

well at first i thought i it was a miss, but then i took it slowly up to the rmp range where it happens and held it there. then it seemed to happen repeatedly. very small surging or miss i cant really tell. if i lay on it i would not even know it was there.

212 intake 218 exhaust @ 050 114 lobe center. ill have the tuner mess with it in a couple of months. it will take me a while to get back there cause of school. as long as it dont hurt anything.

With that low of durration (its funny, my 66 is 246 I and 250 E @ .50...yea it hits HARD) and that kind of intake centerline your car should idle SMOOTH and should be NO surging. Mine will hold any RPM and never surges...however at a steady rev, BELOW 3500 the car misses...even the factory tune before the cams it missed...but after 3500 its smooth with 0 missing.

no it idels awsome. it is perfect so far! its just if i hold the revs at about 1800 or 2100 rpm in first or second or around that general rpm range, theres some surging. maybe im confusing the surging with a mis?

either way could either of these have an ill effect on the car at all. it seems okruns really strong. it also somtimes sounds funny like somthing is broken inside like a rattle. do you cammed guys get any of this?

sorry i never had cams before. just trying to get used to them and make sure nothing is wrong. :nice:
