Hi all,

Car currently has the stock setup with A/C.

So it goes Crank, W/P, P/S, A/C, tensioner, Alt, and then Smog.

I am installing a manual steering rack, removing the A/C, and the smog.

So all that will be left is the Crank, W/P, tensioner, and Alt.

How should I go about setting this up to work?

I'd like to not have to use the tensioner if it wasn't needed.

You need a march, summit or other brand alternator mount with the adjustable tensioning rod, it will do away with the stock alt. bracket and tensioner and look much better. When you do this you need a standard rotation water pump and probably an aluminum grooved water pump pulley to avoid slippage. Here's a crappy pic of mine... check summitracing.com they should have everything

I've heard some suggest flipping the tensioner will net the same result, thus routing the belt over the tensioner instead of under it, and swap the tensioner pulley out for a grooved one - no need to swap water pumps or the water pump pulley, nor any need to buy a fancy bling-blingy polished tensioner bracket. Not sure exactly on the specifics of it, though. I'll likely be using this method, myself, when I get around to converting my '89 to manual steering, as well (A/C is already deleted) ... but that won't be until like next year, so 'fraid I can't give you much more detail on it than that until then.

Hoping someone else will post here with pics of this setup so I can see it, too...
