Suspension Spring Orientation

Hi all,

I put the FMS C springs in a while ago (7 years) while in high school and my mustang sits about 3/4" higher in the right rear compared to the left rear. I finally have time to figure out what is wrong.

Does anyone know the correct orientation the springs are supposed to be or better yet have a picture showing this?

If that doesn't work, search the net for an aluminum spacer designed to fix this problem.

The Front Springs should have the End of the Pigtail between the 2 Holes in the Pocket in the Lower A Arm. The Rear Springs should have the Pigtail to the Rear and Pointing toward the Drivers Side. Front Springs that are Positioned wrong can really throw the rear of the car out of whack.

LOL, I think all Foxes have a slight lean in them!!!

Yeah, i checked the front springs last night and one of them is correct and the other is about a quarter turn off. I will try to fix this weekend. Thanks for the help.

If indexing your springs doesn't work. I used an aluminum spring spacer that fit perfectly. Wish I could remember where I got it...Maybe Stang Suspension. It's a billet aluminum disk shaped to fit your rear spring perch perfectly. It comes in different thicknesses so you measure your lean and order the correct one. Pretty easy to install and fixed my lean I've had since I bought my 86 in 88. I think it cost about $30. Quickest and cheapest fix. Other options were to replace springs or replace the rear lower arms with adjustable spring perches.

I prefer stock ride height and wanted to keep my stock springs. And new arms are expensive.

Mike, could it have been a Global West part? When I was searching some time back, they had them (one of the few, if not only folks to make such an animal).

I might have to try one myself - I never did because (IIRC) they got bashed on that real long Corral thread about stang lean. It's good to hear some positive feedback.
