Suspension Tips Anybody....??

Hey fellas and ladies!! I am about to perform major suspension surgery on my 2000 Mustang GT. I am changing the springs, swaybars, balljoints, lower control arms, endlinks, and brackets. I was wondering if anybody would have any words of wisdom or tips. Anything that might be of help to someone doing this sort of surgery. Thanks for your time.

if you are putting on lowering springs may aswell throw on some shocks and struts while you're in there. Hell some lower control arms too.

My Shocks and Struts dont give me any problem....Should i change them anyway even though they dont need to be changed...??

Yes. Depending on what spring you choose, you may need CC plates too.

Go to maximum's site and select a kit....it'll save you some money.

If one were to lower a car 1.5", would he/she need CC plates? Or does that depend on the car?

I sure wish I wouldve bought the whole kit from the get go. Because now Ive spent a fortune getting all the peices seperate. I didnt have $4000+ to throw around @ one time though.

I would get em, but alot of people go without them.

You're going to get different answers on that question. I have Steeda Sport Springs and I needed C/C Plates to get the front back to spec. Others haven't had an issue with an even lower drop so it does depend. Can't go wrong with anything MM sells if you need suspension components though. Good luck with the "surgery"

As did I my friend. But, if he's going to change the springs, shocks and struts (at the minimum), there's a kit they sell that has most or all of the other parts he wanted too.

I had the Bullitt suspension at first, but luckily I got the MM standard LCAs and FLSFCs too. I junked the Bullitt stuff and got c/o's, then took those off and got H&R SS/Bils. Then added the PHB.

No one ever said getting your suspension right is a cheap endeavor.

What do you need the surgery for? replacement for worn components, upgrading for drag or road race?

I agree with the previous posters on getting C/C plates and shocks and struts if you are getting springs. Do it all right the first time. Also what setup do you plan on going with?

Drag Race?
Road Race?

I just want a suspension that will handle the extra power i am planning to add...Supercharger and heads...I dont want all that power and not be able to get it to the ground thats all... I think im gonna keep my struts and shocks though...

This is what really helped me. Follow it step by step and you are smooth sailing. Especially listen to the part where he says put a jack under the diff to prevent the rear axle from rotating forward, learned from experience. It is a great right up.

I just want to be able to get the added power that i am putting on my car to actuall work and get to the ground...

+1...thats why I started from the ground up first by beefing up my suspension, then I will make my car faster.

With all the money Ive spent on my suspension, I couldve had a KB on my car already, but at least now when I get 1, I will be able to lay it all down to the pavement.

Thanks alot, it seems to me that there are more than one way to change the springs, the way i was going to do it involved a spring compressor, and the keeping of the brake caliper on, but as they say, there are more than two ways to skin a cat...
