Swap 5.4 Triton parts into '05 Mustang block?

So reading the articles, it becomes apparent that the 2 engines share the heads, cams, block, and bore. Wouldn't it make sense that one could take the rotating assembly from the truck engine, and install it into a Mustang, giving you a 327 Stroker. Then use the computer to tune the camshafts how you wanted. I'm sure Im not the only one who has thought about this and I cant wait till someone does it. It doesnt seem like it would cost much and if you took a low mileage new car and did the swap, then you wouldnt have to worry about boring or honing the engine.
 
The 5.4 has a block that is over 1" taller and it has longer rods. You can't just throw a 5.4 crank, rods & pistons into a 4.6 block unless your goal is to have the pistions smash into the heads and destroy the engine.
 
The 4.6 & 5.4 use different blocks. It doesn't matter whether its a 2 valve, 3 valve or 4 valve 4.6L the block is different (& 1.14" shorther) than a 5.4 block.
 
calm down crazy, lol. You post too fast for me. I was about to say they are different, but that doesnt mean you couldnt swap out the cranks, unless the journals are different. Maybe people should look into this instead of wasting time with the 5.0 stroker. Oh wow, thanks for the 20 extra cubes, when I could have like 50 more. I think I should call a dealer and try and find out. Then you could have some place make rods and pistons or just shorter pistons. But it would be best to make all new pistons and rods because the factory rods suck being that they are the cracked design.
 
The rod and main journal diameters are the same on the 5.4 & 4.6 are the same diameter.

When you put a stroker crank in an engine, you have to put in shorter rods and possibly new pistions. However there is a limit as to how much you can stroke an engine. When the rods get too short the side loading on cylinder walls increases which robs power and can increase cylinder wall wear, shortening engine life if not damaging it in short order.

I'm not an expert on stroking the 4.6 , but from everything I've heard and read, 310 CID is about as far as you want to go with a 4.6L block. Several aftermarket companies sell 4.6L stroker kits.

Go to the 4.6L Modular tech forum here on StangNet. You can do a search and probably find 100 threads on how to stroke a 4.6.
 
Yeah, I know all about how they stroke those things, but they are 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' 5.0 strokers. Thats weak. I just cant believe this engine is so great yet the potential for stroking is so low. I guess you could just drop the whole 5.4 engine in and use modified motor mounts to get it to sit lower. They did an article on it, but that isnt as cool. I figure it cant be done becuase someone would have done it by now.

The different deck heights is nothing new to ford. 302's 351's (windsors and clevlands) have always done this. A lot of the parts do interchange though.

Although a 351W is much like a 302 block with a taller deck, other than the heads, not a lot of parts interchange between a 302 and a 351W. Of course a 351C is another story.
 
Cylinder head assemblies, exhaust manifolds and probably pistons were generally the same. Camshafts were probably similar but I don't know if they interchange or not.

I guess you could just run a shorter piston

There is no way you could run a piston short enough that would still have room for the ring pack and piston crown
 
Actually, the cams are the exact same. Well some strokers have the wrist pin intersecting the oil rings so I wonder. But if your saying the stroke is already a little high than it may not work adding this crank. I wonder what all the numbers would be if you calculated the required rod and piston sizes by adding the crank. Example: the 347 can be done with either 5.4 or 5.315 rods. So I wonder what the size would be on these rods. I just thinking of all these goofy things. Its nice to imagine it though; just swapping factory cranks and stuff. Oh well
 
unfortunately the Mod motors are already long stroke engines:

4.6L = 3.543"
5.4L = 4.165"
5.0L = 3.0"
351 = 3.5"
428 = 3.98"
429 = 3.59"
460 = 3.85"

So the 4.6L stroke is almost the same as a 429.
The 5.4L is the longest stroke car engine Ford has ever sold.

I think the only engine Ford ever had that may have had a longer stroke is some of those huge heavy duty gasoline trunk engines, 571 CID or something like that.
