Switching from AOD to C4 Tranny

I'm in need on a new tranny for my 1989 Mustang GT. I want to go ahead and step up to a better tranny that can hold the power. It seems to me that there are a lot more options with a C4 tranny and it can handle a lot more power. How hard would it be to change from my stock AOD to a C4 tranny? What parts will I need? Thanks.

If you're doing it just for strip, it makes sense.

For street, you're losing both overdrive and lockup.

The AOD can be made to hold lots of power,
or you can go to a late model 4R which already
has all the hp goodies Ford has developed over the
years for the OD transmissions.

I've got some info written up and some copied about switching from a C-4 to an
AOD, but that should help you figure out
what all is involved, just reverse the procedure.

Thanks for all the help. I'm new to all this and I'm just trying to figure out which way to go. I would like to stay with a strong AOD. What is lock up? I've been looking at TCI transmissions (my friend has one in his 580hp '67 Camaro and its working out), TSI Transmissions, and PA Racing Transmissions. Are any of these worth getting? Thanks.

I think if I was going to buy an new C-4 it would be from PA. As far as the conversion it's really easy. When I swapped mine the only problem was cutting the welds on the crossmember. Other than that it is just remove the AOD and put in the C-4.
