I know a way to make it so you can switch into any gear you want at any time you feel like, although used in the wrong sequence wont turn out well for you. Its called a t-5 swap. 5 speed manual transmission. As for your automatic A4LD I dont think theres really a way to alter when it shifts, hence the 'automatic.' It sounds like maybe your bands are slipping when it is trying to shift though.

I was at one time wondering the same thing, but the A4LD tranny should stay the way it is POS. I have plans to drop a T-5 , cause I like control, and with all the crap I fixed on my A4LD (servo seals, modulator valve) its now starting to clunk a little when I give it gas so T5 is in the horizon for me.

I don't think my deal for the t-5 I am trying for is going to work out. Oh well time to save for the WC then.

if you manually shift the A4LD it will end up like this:

the a4ld is NOT a tranny that likes to be abused and is insanely expensive to rebuild. do yourself a favor and start collecting t5 swap parts. the process isnt very difficult, just time consuming. you'll either thank me or ill prolly get a PM from you when your A4LD breaks and you're kicking yourself in the (_|_) saying "damn i should have listened to that smart man on the internet..."
