Ok so I can afford either of these:

Mobil 1 Synthetic oil w/motorcraft filter evey 5k miles
or
Any reputable non-synthetic oil w/motorcraft or similar filter every 3k miles

which is better for the engine?

The synthetic oil will be better than the conventional oil in terms of protection.

Just a note that if you use the motorcraft blend and filter, you don't necessarily need to change every 3000 miles. The 3000-mile rule is for vehicles driven in "severe duty" situations (or something like that)...like if you sit traffic every day or use the car as a pursuit vehicle ( :D ).

So unless you run her hard all the time, or are a "recreational" oil changer (people who change their oil because they enjoy doing it), you don't need to follow the 3000 mile rule. Check your owner's manual/service manual for more specifics.

The motors are broken in from the factory, no need to start with regular oil, then switching, you're just wasting your time. and go with synthetic, I change my oil based on when my car starts to consume it and how it looks, which is usually around 4-5k miles.

Mobil1 5w30 by the way :nice:

Cool just wanted to make sure that changing every 5k with synthetic is alright. I don't drive it too hard, almost never take it above 3k RPM's, no extreme stop & go traffic, about 9k miles on it per year.

3k is where the power band starts. Enjoy the car, don't baby it too much.. You gotta hit redline through first and second at least once a week.

Take note that the motor oil that comes in the mustang is a synthetic blend. I just picked up some motorcraft 5w-20 because they didn't have valvoline and noticed it said "...synthetic blend"...
