Tonight i blew out my tranny, all gears except 4th are rattleing around in the fluid like marbles. I need someting that will work now. I don't care about anything except that it runs. I was thinking a 4cyl tranny to tide me over until a tremec. THe only thing i need to know is will it bolt right up to my bellhousing and will my driveshaft still work ar do i need either one of those. I need this thing running like now .

Sorry to hear abot that.

All I know about the 4cy T-5 is your going to have to swap input shafts since the one on the 4cy is thinner. It will probally work for a while just don't play rough with it at all, I mean granny shift that thing and be easy on the gas.

How hard is it to swap input shafts. Any special measuring involved?

it will all work you can bolt a 4 cyl t5 in to a five liter all you have to do is change the pilot bearing in your 5.0 liter to a pilot bearing out of a ford ranger deisel and the part number is a auto zone part number 14672

i have a 4 cyl t5 setup in my car that was just rebuilt and new clutch and flywheel resurfaced and bell housing that i will sell pm me or email me if interested email is mkuhn01@insightbb.com

You did NOT blow all gears except 4th. Mine did the same thing. You blew your input shaft. You will need a new input shaft and cluster gear to fix your current trans.
The reason you only have 4th is because it is not actually a "gear" like the rest. 4th gear is 1:1. it is created by physically locking the input shaft to the main shaft for a 1:1 ratio. You blew the gear on the input shaft that is mated to the cluster gear/countershaft which is what turns the other gears in the trans.

what is needed to replace the input shaft. Do you have to measure clearences or anything during this replacement?

I am pretty sure that i shor the tranny case also. it is leaking like crazy now so i think i put a small hole in it or something.

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com/index2.htm for parts

A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

Hanlon also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. If they are out of stock see http://cartapes.com. It costs less than $20, and is worth every penny of it.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.

You will also need a magnetic base and dial indicator to measure the endplay ($20-$40). See http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=1312&Keyword=Y

The tricky part is that you will need some shims to adjust the endplay in the two shafts: the new bearings will change the clearance. There is no way of telling what it will be until you get to the point that it is time to measure and check the clearances. Halon has the individual shims if you can wait for them. If you can't afford the wait, the auto parts store can sell you some shim stock and you can make your own, or have a machine shop make them for you. The shim stock comes in brass (easy to cut) and steel, in varying thicknesses.
