I'm in the process of pulling my motor and tranny. My goal is to pull the motor with tranny attached. This is one rusty POS and bolts are hard to pull. Here's the current section I'm working on:

Now I only want to unbolt the bolts absolutely necessary to pull this POS.

There are one of these mounts on each side. There is a bolt on each side and they are hell pulling. Do I have to get these out, or just the middle that counts? It seems to be I don't need to pull these, but it's hard to tell...

To remove just the tranny, itself (and not the bellhousing):

- drain all fluid out (3/8" rachet without socket)
- drop the H-pipe (two 5/8" nuts per flange, IIRC)
- remove the driveshaft (four 1/2" bolts at back)
- disconnect the speedo cable/sensor (one 11mm head bolt)
- disconnect the neutral safety switch (just pulls off)
- bottom two bolts of tranny mount (which you've already removed)
- IMPORTANT: support the front end of the motor with another hydraulic jack and a foot-long piece of two-by-four wood BEFORE the rest, and either use a shaft plug or rubber-band a plastic baggie over the tailshaft, because there's ALWAYS that last quart of fluid that never drains out (except directly onto your feet/face when you least expect it)
- using a SECOND hydraulic jack, or a strong-armed buddy, support the rear of the tranny and remove the two through bolts for the crossmember (5/8" nut with a backup wrench)
- remove the four big ol' bolts that hold the tranny to the bellhousing
- pull straight back, and be ready for that 75 to 100 lbs. of T-5 goodness to be all yours to hold
- uninstall two longnecks of beverage of choice from pack in fridge, promptly install one per mechanic (or two for one, if working alone ... or more, if you don't plan on doing any more that night) :D

Thanks that helps, but I want to pull the motor and tranny, not the tranny buy it self. This is the 2.3 not a 5.0 so I don't have to worry about the h pipe, I got the exhaust off already. Also, I have a cherry picker I'll be using for support. Any idea where to hook it to the motor? Thanks for the tips!!

Ah. Guess I didn't see the word "motor" ahead of it in the first line.

As far as the tranny goes, I suppose the crossmember's the last thing on the list to unbolt, then, as long as you've got all the other bits undone (don't forget to unbolt the shifter, too, of course). Are you planning to pull the motor out WITH the tranny in one fell swoop, or are you going to separate the trans first and pull the motor last (probably be a lot easier)?

You could probably just wrap a beefy chain 'round the upper intake manifold and hook onto that, unless you want to mess with unbolting the intake and then threading a few bolts into the heads through the chain loops on a hoist leveler and then hooking onto that, instead...?

Plan on doing it in one swoop, I was told this is the easiest way. Thanks for the tips.:nice:
