T-5 to a 351c?

Hi,
Hello,
Iam new to the forums and Id just like to introduce myself. My name is Josh, Iam 17 years old and Iam attending a Tech school taking up electrical. I have been invloved in mechanics all my life though, my father and I have rebuilt several Corvettes, older 150's('76 and '78), and I have done several small blocks myself. I own a '94 F-150 with a 302. Right now Iam putting headers, catback, diablo chip, and a sound system in it. But the big one is, Iam restoring a '69 Mach 1 with a 351c 4v closed chamber heads, torker intake, nice big cam, 750 double pumper holley etc...which should be road ready in the spring. Well anyways...

Right now it has a 3-speed Borg Warner, which isnt to bad...but with 4.11's in the rear it going to go no place in a hurry. Well my question is, is it possible to bolt up a T-5 to a 351c? If so are there any T-5's that can hold up to 400+ horses. Thanks in advance,

It can be done. The cleveland and the windsor use the same bellhousing.
There are a few conversion parts but no serious mods involved. Try a search for T-5 or swapper.

The December, 2004 issue of Mustang and Fords has an article about the T5 swap. It looks so easy with the right parts. Yet another project to tackle down the road.

Hey thats awesome welcome to the forums I am 17 too, and anytime i have a question these guys can answer it for me. Its doable but will take some investing in the t5. The t5 won't even be able to handle your cars stock torque, it will rip right through it. Do you have an AIM name? Let me know if you do.

actually putting it in wont be very hard to do all u will need is an adapter and crossmember to bolt it in but ur engine sounds real simular to my old one and i feel sure that the t5 will explode behind it very quickly id look into a tremec or stronger trans

Figured it would break, Stock T-5's can hold 350 lbs of torque is it? I was going to look into a Tremec, but they are so expensive. I might just run the 3-speed until it breaks for now...but anyways, I do have a AIM sn, it is mustangman403, feel free to send me a IM. Thanks

for a 400 hp 351, a T5 just isn't going to work unless its a Gforce, and they're just as expensive as Tremecs with less of a rep. Just save some pennies and get a rebuild Tremec 3550 off ebay (I saw a few earlier this week for 600-800 bucks, which isn't too bad... saw TKOs for 1000-1500 rebuilt, if you want a really tough tranny)
