What all would be needed? My t-5 needs a rebuild. It hard to get it in 2nd gear. I guess let me start off with what i want to do. What i currently have to install is=mac headers, off road h,edelbrock performer upper and lower,70mm tb. Next to order= gears(not sure which ones yet) and a nitrous kit. either 100 or 150 shot. Thats really about it. Now back to the tranny. I was thinking of getting an auto tranny. It pretty much just going to be a track car. What all would i need to do this? Also where is a good place to buy a aftermarket auto tranny? What brand? I dont need the best as i will not be making that much power but want something that is not going to brake. Should i rebuild the stock t-5? Just looking for suggestions. thanks.

if you want and trany i just did a t5 swap and have a auto trany i'm lookin to get rid of. it has 28k on the trany. i have everything; pedal, converter, etc. just let me know.

To do the conversion right you should know that the floor has a secondary hump added for the manual and the location for the stock auto shifter does not exist. The clutch pedal would be removed, a bypass needs to be installed in the wiring for the clutch start switch. The wiring harness to the transmission is different, the wiring to the oxygen sensors is different I think there are a couple other wiring differences I'd have to check my notes. The transmission crossmember is different, the driveshaft for an auto has some sort of balance coller, the computer is different and I don't think it matters but I remember relocating my speedometer cable through my firewall as well. Those are most of the changes, I went four cylinder auto to 5.0 auto then to 5.0 manual.

He has it right. I just did a 4ycl auto to 5.0L stick swap. I had a donor car so it was easy. The speedo sensor and clutch cable are run through opposite holes in the fire wall. There is just a plug there, no drilling required. There is also a seperate harness from the left kick panel to the transmission. Also, as far as the plugs that go into the clutch pedal box...there are 3 of them. All you have to do is run a wire from on prong, loop it around and stick it in the other end of the same plug. That is how the factory did it. I went auto to stick, so I used those, where as stick to auto you will not use them. the brake light switch uses the same hardware. It is easy, but it is nice to have a donor car.

If he's not interested, i may be. Pm me with a quote for the trans, converter, cooling lines, and shifter. Im building two 5.0's and im going to make one an auto so my wife can drive it occasionally.

damn, that sounds like a little more than i was expecting. I guess ill just rebuild the t-5. The reason i asked was because someone told me an auto will bolt up with out having to anything else ans i thought it was to easy, Thats why i posted this. If i just get a stock rebuild do you think it will hold what i want to do? Or is there a better rebuild kit out there?

A C4 would make a great tranny for a track car and probably last a while and give you a bunch of room to grow. With the T5, you probably exceed its capabilities already especially with the NO2. The typical T5 doesn't like hard launches and hard shifts though some people are able to get away with it. I suggest getting a Gforce rebuild kit because I think with the stock one it's just going to fail again especially if its gonna be run hard for most of its life. When I did my rebuild I had to replace my 2nd gear, 1st to 2nd slider(may be the same problem that you have) and the 3rd to 4th shift fork. After buying a kit, press and replacement parts it cost about 500 dollars. I should have just put the money towards the Gforce or bought a TKO600 to begin with which I just did. The kit I purchased from Hanlon didn't harden the bearings between the input and output shaft so after 10 miles they failed and ate up both my shafts... not worth repairing... I would look for a stouter rebuild than just stock... Especially if you have to repalce a couple gears... at 80 bucks a pop they add up quick. The Gforce kit replaces just about everthing and uses your current clutch, bellhousing and case. Starting at 1100 for the base kit, if you are on a budget thats where I would start looking. Their upgrades add up quick so don't forget that you can pick up a TKO600, mcleod 26 spline disk, bellhousing and yoke for about 2200 shipped from www.ddperformance.com as an option too.
