Hi everyone. I just bought a 93 lx with new clutch, rebuilt T-5 tranny and rearend. I experience strong jerking/bucking sensation in 2nd and 3rd gear. There is no bucking when accelerating, only when at steady speed or slowing down. If I keep the rpm's up the sesation is not as bad but is still present. I've had previous manual transmission stangs and all shifted great so it's not operator error. Yesterday I put it in reverse and heard a "thud" and later while driving in 3rd gear it started jerking so I floored it and heard a loud thud in the rear. I would appreciate any advice before I take it to Ford and dish out mega $$.

jerking

i had a very similar problem with my stang. i have a 93 5.0 with a rebuilt super duty t-5. part of the issue was my cam wasn't stock and below 2500 it would buck, but the major problem was a thud when i would put it in reverse or i would clutch i would hear a thud too. after not know what was up i finally noticed my differential was leaking fluid. it had never leaked anything b4 so since i don't have the tools to do a rearend i took it to my local mustang expert and thought i might just need a rearend rebuild. unfortuneatly my pinion bearing was completely gone and i had no clue and was driving it like that for a long time. about 1g later and a new 8.8" from ford the problem was fixed. no bucking, driveability is great now and there is no thud or clunk noise in any gears or when i clutch. my guess would be it's something to do with your rearend, hopefully i'm wrong though for your wallets sake.

T-5 bucking/jerking

Thanks for the advice! Engine has a B-cam but I'm not sure if tranny is heavy duty or stock rebuilt unit. I'll contact seller to see what he says. I heard a new clutch can cause jerking also. Rear end is a good place to start, thanks again

T-5 jerkiness

Get a dial gauge and check the gear lash. Plus verify your timing is set right, excessive advanced timing will cause this also. Maybe not the noise, but the bucking.

I hear no pinging whats so ever. Cam installer said he set timing to specs. Don't know if he advanced timing (turned distributor). Would that be gear lash for rear end or tranny gears? Thanks!

I took car out for a thorough test. I heard a thud when putting car in reverse. Also while cruising in 5th gear I let off gas then put foot back on gas several times; I hear thud from rear. In neutral I hear a rattling noise from tranny. I can barely hear it, but it's there.
