I don't understand why this only happens sometimes. It may not do it for a day or two and then it might happen two times in one day. When shifting out of 4th into 5th it will grind like the syncro's are not working at all!(you know that good, quick 'skeeetch' noise that sounds like you comletely missed the gear) Thats what I would suspect if it happend every time or frequently, but its only once in a while. I just replaced the clutch, but it did it before and after that. And I have a Tri-Ax mounted on top of it. Is this tranny headed for the big T45 farm in the sky?

I'm not sure how the t-45 is setup since i have not looked inside one yet, but if it's anything like a t-5, the 5th gear synchro is alone and unique because it uses a brass blocker ring. The brass ring wears out quicker but 5th gear is usually not a gear everyone tries to nail WOT. But it does happen.

Unless there is some prog with clutch engagement, i would say the 5th gear synchro is worn. If you are mechanical, you can drop the tranny yourself and replace it.

Thats what I was thinking, but it happens just every so often... I dunno. I don't let anyone do anything to my cars for me unless its something I don't trust myself to do, like installing a cam. Thats something I would rather someone else do, who has done it already once or twice, and be responsible for if it breaks. But if the tranny goes I'll either swap it out with a TKO or T-56 myself :D

 Well that is good to know. Maybe getting a new tranny sooner than planned...
