t5 fluid

for everyday drivability what kind of fluid would you put in a stock t5?

I used conventional Valvoline ATF. It takes just under 3 quarts. Fill it through the shifter with the fill plug out on level ground. When it starts to leak out of the fill plug, wait till it stops, then put the plug in. My trans shifts great.

Yep - Mercon is the spec'd fluid and what *most/many* folks use.

You can also get about 4 foot of 1/2inch hose and drop it down through your engine bay to your fill plug, use a funnel.

that's how I do it too....some people like to run GM syncromesh

how come atf and not gear oil?

My friend ran gear oil (80W-90) in his T-5.....shifter was hard to move untill trans got warm....just didn't feel good.

use mercon for your stock t5.

Gear oil is too thick to flow past the needle bearings decently when it's cold.

Gear lube is stiff shifting, expsecially in cold weather. It can hurt your trans, because you may have to force the shifter around.

add a red bottle of lubeguard while your at it, supposed to make em work even better.
