FINALLY!
WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!
words cant describe how much more responsive the car is. First gear is nothing now, so easy to spin the tires. Second gear feels AWESOME.

Car feels like a real mustang now!

Only thing though, the shifter is real tight and hard to get into gear, sometimes i even have to really force it into 1st.
i think maybe the clutch isnt fully disengaging or something, any way i can check this???
and how many quarts of fluid does the t5 take, i have 2.5 in it so maybe that could be the problem...

also i guess the reverse in this t5 is toast, grinds puttin it in and as soon as you move the gear grinds and pops out, you cant hold it in either, it will come out no matter how hard u hold it.

good job man. glad to hear you got it all done. now the motor is next isnt it? you going to the track again and see if you can beat that 16.8?

just did a t-5z swap myself, its great except for the fact i have electrical problems and its parked at a store parking lot. But to answer your reverse gear problem, sometimes when it does that grinding noise you are suppose to put it into first, and then move it to reverse, something with the syncros i was just told that by my mechanic. have fun

oh yeah, the car is WAY WAY faster than that 16.8, i remember how fast it was and how fast it is now, the car feels like a different car.

i tried that 1st then reverse thing, reverse is seriously MESSED UP hardcore, it grinds hard when it moves and its bad, its not normal.

also
the crossmember that supposed to be grinded or whatever, NOT, it was pulled off the AOD and fit right up to the t5

the AOD driveshaft DID NOT WORK, was too long.
I also didnt have to hook up the NSS inside the car either.
the only wiring thing i hooked up was the 4 wire plug from the car into the reverse light spot on the t5.

i'm still saving, going to buy a t5-z to avoid the hassles of used trannies......so hopefully in a couple months.....
ok, so, whats this about the aod drive shaft being too long???? how is that possible????
i was going to say if you didn't have to modify the tranny mount maybe your trans is too far rearward, making the drive shaft seem longer.....but that couldn't be because if that were the case i wouldn't think the tranny would bolt to the engine right......hmmmmmm......i wonder why it seemed too long???
also, what did you end up having to do with the exaust hanger situation??

I also did this swap, i also didnt hook up the safety switch. My crossmember and drive shaft fit perfect. i just eliminated the exhaust hanger for the time being. (didnt have time to modify it) As for the trans, some grinding going into reverse is ok and acctually normal, however yours is popping out and is most likely junk, (It happened to an old delivery truck that we used to have). Good luck on a new trans

my friends stang was torn apart so he has his DS out, we compared than and its not just the yoke, the actual SHAFT is like 1/4 inch longer.
its real close but the pinion nut sticks out and hits the DS, you cant get the DS over the nut to fit.

I had to borrow my friends DS for now, and buy one here pretty quick.

exhaust hanger, just bought the t5 one and bolted it up and it fit great.

Great job installing the T-5..now you get to pull it, get it rebuilt, and install it again. I will say the coversion is not easy..so good job strugglin through, you should be proud.

The grinding in revers may indeed be that your clutch needs a bit more adjustment to get it right. If it's a new shifter, expect that it's going to feel "notchy" for a while until you get it worn in a bit. If it's a stock T-5 shifter then get rid of it just as soon as you are able. Get a Tri-Ax, Pro-50, or whatever floats your boat. There's too much "potential" for the stock shifter to have you finding yourself in 1st gear at 60+ miles per hour. They have no spring returns.

Your clutch needs to be adjusted. Did you install a firewall adjuster? Worth it's weight in gold.

yea my driveshaft bolted right up too. The person who had the car before you might of put a different driveshaft on that was prob just enough fit for the aod but not for the t-5. Anyway, have fun with that 5spd man

Glad you got it going man , I am planning to swap in the spring myself. I am going to gather all on the other parts that I don't yet have over the winter, then do like timewarped1972 and buy a new T5Z.

congrats.

you can check the fluid by getting the car on a level surface, and pulling the filler plug. (top plug on the passenger side) fill the transmission until it just starts coming out of that hole and its full.

you can fill it from the shifter hole or use a pump below the car.
