congrats foxfan, you'll have a hell of a time driving now, stick is loads better than automatic

it was once compared to sex... you could just sit there and let her do all the work, or you can bang her into gears yourself, or something to that extent

anyway... pulling trannies is fun, trust me

now when ya get that reman'd engine in there you'll be all set

Good job. I also did a t-5 swap, along with a v8 swap at the same time. Phew, wasn't fun, especially since it was all 88' stuff into a 95'

Yeah the aod drive shaft should of worked fine. And the reverse grinding it sounds to me like your loosing some synchros.

Who needs reverse, just pop it in neutral and let it roll back.

well i think i may know of the clutch problem.

ok on the clutch cable, where it mounts to the firewall, there is that black piece and screws to the firewall and connects to the tan part of the cable, well i dont have that piece.
so there is nothing really holding it to the fire wall, so i think when i press the clutch, it slightly pulls the whole sheath back and doesnt pull as much as it should..

anyone know where i can buy this black piece???

Just buy an aftermarket firewall adjuster instead of the rubber grommet...

bbk's legendary firewall adjuster will save you loads of crawling under the car to adjust the clutch at the fork

get an aftermarket quadrant as well

4th then reverse is easier. brass syncro in 5th so avoid that unless you need to use that gear. tried letting the clutch out just a little till it sucks the shifter in? mine sometiems wont go in all the way till you make it suck it in. if its spitting it out then is there a possibility that the stops for the shifter arent set properly?

so do i just unhook the cable from the quadrant then pull it out of the firewall and slide it through the firewall adjuster and put it in the firewall??

also how difficult is the quadrant change with pedals in the car??

i think from looking at mine, the problem is more with getting the old quadrant off.........if you manged to get the pedal assembly in there i'm sure you can do the quadrant....basically slides on the two posts, and has small pins that hold it in place........you'll see after you get the old one off there......the old one looks all complicated with the springs.none of thats on the new one......

i tried that 1st then reverse thing, reverse is seriously MESSED UP hardcore, it grinds hard when it moves and its bad, its not normal.

also
the crossmember that supposed to be grinded or whatever, NOT, it was pulled off the AOD and fit right up to the t5

the AOD driveshaft DID NOT WORK, was too long.
I also didnt have to hook up the NSS inside the car either.
the only wiring thing i hooked up was the 4 wire plug from the car into the reverse light spot on the t5.

I dont think so ...I did a t5 swap and used the aod drivshaft....It worked perfect.

very interesting here.

1. A mustang will grind little to none going into reverse. Constant grinding going into reverse, coupled with a shifter that's very hard to get into gear is tell tale signs of a very loose clutch adjustment. Don't drive the car, you're not disengaging all the way and will jack up your clutch.

2. I'm glad you posted about that driveshaft. The AOD shaft is indeed longer. I took pics once, side by side, but are not sure where they are. The yoke on the aod shaft makes it longer, but I had no idea the actual shaft was longer too. FYI, on our aod to t5 swap, the aod shaft would not fit either. This is why we then held it next to a stocker and compared lengths.

3. The aod crossmember, as you found out will bolt straight up to the t5.
your 16.8 should now be about a 15.8 if you can learn to drive it good. Gears and control arms and light bolt ons will get you into the 14's. Have fun with it!!
