I haven't seen this posted before but thought I would ask. From what I have read, my stock toploader yoke should fit the tailshaft of the t5 but the driveshaft will be too long by 3/4 to 1", hence you need to have it shortened. I believe the stock yoke has ample engagement into the output shaft and I wanted to know if the additional length could be cut off with the yoke chucked into a metal lathe? has anyone done this or attempted to do so? I've seen that done, once in a car magazine writeup. It was the first T5 swap I ever saw, and I have never seen it done again. I think that cutting the driveshaft down is a safer alternative to shortening the trany yoke.

The reason for shortening the DS instead of the yoke is probably because you need a certain amount of free space in the end of the yoke. That way there is stil lots of engagement, but also no risk of stuffing the driveshaft into the trans over a big bump. If that happens, it's very possible that trying to save $100 would end up costing many hundreds more. I had to learn the heard way not to do that.:bang:
