Merry Christmas guys.. My freind and I might be doing an engine swap in his 98 V-6 Stang. Heres the scoop. We have easy acess to a 302, and parts are cheaper with a 302. I know that these cars had the 4.6's in them for that year GT. So my question is would it be any more difficult then just the normal swapping the wire-harness over and getting all the right manifolds? Also the car is not a 5 speed.. its the auto, would that bolt right up or would it be an issue? Thanks

Also.. I know that we would probaly break the rear axle in a matter of time but the concern right now is wich motor would be more of a direct swap.. We were thinking a carbed 351.. same block and dimensions as a 5.0 right?

If I'm not mistaken, the only thing you have to change over besides what you already said is the motor mounts. The K-member is the same. The 351 is a taller motor though. You're going to need drop mounts and a taller hood.

If he goes carbed, his stock hood will work, he'll just have to get a torker II intake for a 351w, motor mounts will work also, not very sure but I thought the K member was different also, because with a 4.6 the motor sits differently than the 5.0. I should be doing another 351w swap on my 97 vert in the spring, so I would like to know more also.

Right up my alley almost. Ok the 351........ well from experience I will say dont do the carb! I ran into lots of problems and I bit of more than I can chew. I have seen a windsor with EFI and it hauled.

On the tranny swap. I swaped from AODE to the 3550. Simple it was done it a couple hours. Need a different computer and cantrary to poular belief you dont need to change the wiring harness. Just stick a paper clip or something in the neutral safety switch to bridge it open. Also make sure the little shift lock is pressed in and taped down good. It could cause a major :bang: if you forget.

Most of all GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

he should be able to use his v6 motor mounts if everything else will fit, other than that, bell housing, computer for trans, headers, oil pan, and brackets for the swap, and the dimensions are not the same for a 302 and 351W, the 351W is wider than the 302, so if he does the swap carbed, make sure he gets the torker II.
