I pull in the garage today and get out the car and notice my taillights are still on. I figure I left my lights on, but no. My knob is pushed in. I check my headlights and they are off. I figure my break pedal is depressed; no. I pull outward...no change. I pump the brakes and try it again...the lights are still on....any recommendations?

Is it your taillights or your brake lights? If its your brake lights either your brake light switch has gone bad or the part on your brake peddle that the switch contacts has broken off. See if you can stick your head up there and check it out.

I assume it is the brake lights because when I press the brake pedal there is no additional lighting. The contact appears to be good; all pieces in place. Even when I unplug the brake light switch, the tail lights (Brake lights) are on. The brake light switch is less than $10. I will grab one tomorrow and let you know what happens.......thanks

Nice work guys.

When you have your brake switch in hand (out of the car), put a meter across the terminals with the switch at rest (open). I bet you read a really low resistance when in fact it should read infinite.

Be thoughtful with the order of the spacers and grommet dealie on both sides of the switch - IIRC Haynes has a pretty good picture of the order of them if you forget.

Good luck.

It was the stop light switch. It was simple to replace. It took under a minute and cost me under $8. Thanks for the heads up the spacers. Thanks to all who responded.
