Ive been in the process of dropping my tremec 3550.. well I got the transmission jack today and got up to the point of supporting the tranny, crossmember out of the way, disconnected speedo and sensors, D/S out...and removing two bolts on both sides, where the tranny meets the bellhousing. I think there might be two more on top.. but I cant tell if they are on the bellhousing or on the tranny. And even if they are on the transmission.. how would I get these out?
I disconnected the clutch cable from the fork, but Im thinking the fork is going to hit the bell housing on the way out?? maybe im wrong on this..
but,
Would it be easier to get the bellhousing and transmission as one? Perhaps the bolts are easier to get to? I vision the top bellhousing bolts being possible to get to from the engine bay.. but I thinking Im missing something.

Maybe I just need to just tug on the mofo..but I wanted to ask you guys before I go and do that and break something.

Thanks

There are 4 bolts used to hold the 3550 in place. I use a univeral joint, socket & LONG extension to get to the top bolts.

The pilot bearing rides on the trans input shaft housing and when you pull the trans out, the fork will flop around inside the bellhousing. This is not a problem until it comes time to put it back together.

Ok so I took those four out.. I guess Im just being puss and didnt want to man handle the sucker out. Its dark now, but tomorrow after work Ill just get under there and try to force it out? It should have some resistance right, comparing it to the resistance of taking the driveshaft out, is it going to alot more or the same? I ask because I tried to get it out, even on a rolling tranny jack and it just didnt want to budge.. I left it supported, to ask you guys in case I was missing someting or forgot to remove some more bolts. But so its only four to remove from bell housing. Done that.

I removed the shifter handle.. I couldnt get those extra two bolts in the front of the base, my hands are too fat or something.. but I figured I could at least get the tranny out a couple inches and then drop it down some to get it out.. but as of today its basically still bolted to the housing without a 1/4in of space inbetween.. Ill go over it again this after noon. Perhaps Im missing some sorta perfect tool for those extremely hard to reach spots..

shouldn't need to get the lower boot off, the shifter lever off the tranny should just slide outta the boot.

tilt the engine down as far as it will go, and that should be it...

if you think you've tried hard enough to get the sucker out, and it still wont budge, maybe something's up in your bellhousing, and id just do the four tranny bolts up and undo the 6 bellhousing bolts, pull the whole thing at once
