TDC question

How do i get teh#1 piston at TDC without removing the head? I know how to turn the engine over but i dont know how to tell when the engine's at TDC. The car is a 1987 5.o.

The Harmonic Balacer has a Mark on it sayin TDC. when the pointer is on that mark #1 cylinder is a at Top dead center.

correct, but you can be at TDC on the exhaust stroke with the balancer at 0*. pull spark plug one and crank it over by hand. as the balancer approaches 0*, have your finger in the plug hole and feel for air whooshing out. if you feel air, stop at 0*. you are at TDC on the compression stroke. if you dont feel air whoosh past your finger or it is feable, rotate again till you get the whoosh.

Also, on the compression stroke, the rotor will be pointing at the #1 cylinder terminal.
