Tear Down: In Search of the Elusive Rattle

I am fixing to remove the back seat pieces, rear interior quarter trim, and maybe even the headliner in my vert to attempt to eliminate various rattles.

What do you think? Should I take some pics while I am doing it and post them up?

oh, I just got back from using the lift at a garage. I did my share of preventative maintenance. Now I need to rebuild my rear end. I was gonna finally buy new rims/tires or some nice shiney Jet-Hot coated Longtubes. Now its 31 splines, bearings and seals, and a new differential. Son-of-a-bitch

im in the same boat. keep us updated as to what you end up buying and what it costs you. im considereing just buying a whole new rear end

Im thinking Moser 31 splines, a full bearing and seal kit (from whoever makes the best) and Im still undecided on the differential. I hear so many contradicting things about Auburn, Eaton, Detroit and FRPP, I dont know wtf to do.

Somebody tell me what the best, strongest diffential is for a daily driven, full bolt-on + heads and cams with 4.10s GT is!

Look close you will see three black trim fasteners holding the interior edge of the quarter trim:

Oh, I am not done yet. Still have to find the elusive rattle...

Here's the quarter trim completely removed. Be careful, have patience, remove all the trim fasterners and pay attention to how it comes out so you can get it back in just right. Sometimes it takes a couple tries to get it just right. I have needle nose vice grips on the seat belt to keep it from annoying me:

Here is the speaker grill as seen from the inside. This is the stocker with crappy half assed plastic melt rivets holding it on. I replaced the grill on the other side and the replacement has much nicer friction washers to hold the grill in place. The new grill cost $14 at the Ford parts counter:

From HI? Anyway, it is not hard and if you want to replace speakers or speaker grill you must tear down to this extent... A good trim fastener tool is KEY.

Actually the possibility of that is extremely high. Also, when I did the speaker install last summer I created some rattles that I am fixing today. Pics of that to follow...

You should use Dynamat padding as well as felt tape on seams to help prevent vinyl creaking/squeaking/rattling.
