What kind is it? I have only seen points and this seems like a inductive pickup. It is presently shoved into a 351C I am rebuilding. I know the wires are clipped off, but what about the points?

From the looks of it, that is a DuraSpark distributor there (Ford's version of HEI). Which version of DuraSpark it is (there beinning 3) I couldn't say, but it does look like the DuraSpark 2 distributor I have sitting in the old box-o-parts. This set up is a solid state, so there are no points, which makes it A LOT more reliable. What car are you putting this distributor in? To get this disributor to work in a classis Mustang for example, you will need to get the control box and splice it into your wiring harness. If you need anymore info on how to do that, then I have some links that show how to do the DuraSpark conversion.

I could use all the help I can get on this one. I have this in a fresh rebuilt 351C for the time being...just to plug the hole from forign objects. I have a point distributor for it but needs a good going over. Tell me more about the Duraspark and what I would need.

Well, Duraspark is a solid state ignition system that uses a magnet to trigger a b-field, which is created when electrical connection is broken on the primary, causing the coil to rapidly collapse and create the high voltage output through the tower. If you did want to use this you would first have to make sure that the distributor itself is in working condition. Next would be to get the control box for it, which would mount on the side of your fender apron like an msd unit would. Here are some likes that I have when I was planning on doing the conversion, but in the end I just went with a Pertronix's unit as it was a lot easier to install, and I didn't have to mount a control box somewhere. Some say it's cheaper, but when I called for prices around here it would cost more to do the DuraSpark then the Pertronix's, so I went with the Pertronix's and also installed a wide cap as well.
