Tell me I didnt waste my money

600 seems a bit steep....what kind of valves and how good of a valve job? (3 angle, 5 angle?). Also did you need new guides and all that too?

I just had my 351W heads gone through but i didn't need guides, and i got a half price deal on some $200 stainless valves, and i only got a 3 angle valve job. It cost me $450.

I spent about 600 on my gt-40s and heres what they did. Hot tanked them, milled the heads 25 thou to get some compression back, new valve giudes, 3 angle valve job, machined spring perches, viton valve stem seals, installed springs, with new keepers & retainers. I think thats it.

I can't tell you that you didn't wasye your money because that does seem like a lot. You could have almost went out and got some TW heads or some other aluminum head for that much. I really hope that your GT40s flow a lot for that kind of money. Let us know what kind of numbers you get.

I think it depends on if he got new valves or not, that could easily have pushed mine into the $600 range if i didn't get a deal on mine. A 3 angle valve job is typically $3-350 and that's just for the grind job on the valves, if you buy new valves you could easily spend another $200 depending on what valves you get, and then if you need guides or any other machining on the heads, i could see $600 easily. It just depends. Weather it's worth it or not, well if i could've easily found good aluminum heads for $450, i'd have jumped on it. I hear Thumpers are a good value, but considering i already had my heads and they already have a great port job and already had 1.94/1.60 valves, it was cheaper for me to just have these freshened up.

I would hate to do business with ya'lls machine shop. I have a 3 angle valve job milled the heads 30 thousands, cooked over night, installed the new springs( and he supplied the 7* locks) and it only cost me $240. I had allready ported them myself.

yea sure you could have bought a set of used Al heads for about that price...then you would have had to ship them to you...not very cheap. Then you would still have to have them freshened up. You are still spending 600 bucks on a set of used heads that you dont know much of anything about. Who knows how much you might have to lay out to get those 600 dollar heads into mint condition. Pretty soon your almost at the price of brand new trick flows!!!! I could have bolted the gt-40's i bought right on the car. But i spent 600 bucks and now they are better than new....and they are reliable as hell. To each his own i guess....

I don't see how you consider a set of used GT40s more reliable than a set of used Trickflows. I'm willing to bet he bought those GT40s used and didn't know much about them either.

Not all used heads need to be freshened up. After examining them closely and looking for cracks or problems the most you would have to do would be to mill them which is not expensive at all.

You already bought them and got them ported so it is over with anyways.
I hope you enjoy them

too late to matter, but ya spent 600 at the machine shop, (how much for the heads??) and they are now worth, 350-400 bux....but hey, they are better than e-7's!
in the end, the money you "saved" cost ya, just like i have done too many times to count!

good luck.

Ya 600 seemed a little steep but this was a new shop i was trying. cuz I had a shop I liked They had good prices and do good work. But the guy at the front is a little dopey haha he seems like he dont wanna talk to you at all and dont want your business. and he never calls you back whe your stuffs done.

Any way whats better ported E7's or Stock GT-40s?
