what would be better, ported thumpers or GT-40s?? I personaly would have saved more and went with AFR's or Trickflow's, thats my opinion but like everybody says to each his own

Al the shop is doing is magna*****sing , puting in stainless steel valves, springs, vating. I was gonna port but they wanted like a grand.

i paid $880 for bolted on but never run (basically new) gt40 aluminum heads, WITH 24k mile cobra 1.7 rockers (the orig ford ones).

No need to ridicule the guy....money has surely been spent in stupider places than on a set of heads. Those are easy 12 second capable heads...nothing wrong with that. I'm sure he got good work for that price.

I have seen brand new heads need machine work, both Trick Flow and Edelbrock. It depends on what you want and expect out of your heads. In my experience when it comes to machine work you get what you pay for, in spades! I would never trust a $80.00 valve grind. In fact with the right equipment you do not have to "grind " valves or seats. If done right (IMHO) they are cut, not ground. I saw a set of heads purchased from Power Heads that seized the valves in the guides after 5 min. of run time. So much for a $600.00 set of heads! When I took them to the machine shop I was amazed how screwed up they were! After only 5 min. no less. Not to say that someone can do excellent work for $80.00, but they sure are not making a living doing it either. I could go on and on, but you get the drift.

The guy in the mirror can tell you if you are satisfied or not, no one else should matter. I paid $1,000 for Factory Stock prepped GT40P heads with F/S prepped Mac shorties and a set of Scorpion 1.6 rockers. I never looked back and never regretted my purchase.

I got my heads done last summer. Receipt says "Complete V-Job and surface v8 heads. $100." That sounds really low compared to everyone else here, but here is what they did:

Inspected, hot tanked, and surfaced the GT40P's, new valve seals, and a 3 angle valve job. I used my old valves and springs. Was it the best work in the world? Probably not. I didn't pull the valves to look at the valve job and I wouldn't know 100% what I was looking for anyway to be perfectly honest, but everything else looked ok.
