I recently did a v8 carb swap on my 95 v6... shorty headers, 3 core rad, at idle the temp is like 210. I had this issue before when I initially did this swap but the car overheated started leaking out the rear main blag blag blah ... had to take the whole engine out put in new crank cam timing chain lifters and 3 core rad .... I started it for the first time last night the start went better than the original start but my temp is still high I don't get it I thought the 3 core over the stock radiator would fix the problem any suggestions on how I can lower the temp am I too rich or lean just afraid to drive it and have to pull it again.

How are you cooling the radiator, electric fan (stock or aftermarket) or manual (clutch or fixed blade)?

Pic?
I ask because even though the fan runs constant it may not be big/strong enough (cfm) to pull enough air to cool.
You are sure you got all the air out?

I'm going to check some things shortly hose calapsing lean rich etc it was dark and late and called it a night last night. So I'm about to go there now and mess with it. I do have a different fan with higher cfm. But no shroud that I can use but want to make sure the fan is the problem first.

210 isn’t really overheating. Modern EFI engines prefer to run in the 200-210 degree range. With that said, I would only expect to see 210 after some hard runs, and not just idling. That means your cooling system is definitely weak. Even with a stock 195 t stat you should comfortable be around 195-200 degrees.

what condition to you hit that temp? Highway? Idle?

Ok knock off 10 degrees from what I said before.

at idle it’s usually an airflow issue. You need a shroud. If it’s just a fan only you aren’t really pulling through the radiator, your pulling from all around the engine bay

Am I right though 210 at idle seems high I know the shorty headers make more heat. The fan I have now has the shroud

If it was my car, I’d want to see it in the 190-195 range

Is temp from factory gauge or from infrared temp tester on rad tank or aftermarket gauge? If aftermarket gauge, where is the sensor located?

Pics of rad and fan setup always help us diagnose.

So... pic 1, is that your gauge sensor or fan controller sensor? (or are you still running fan through V6 engine computer).

So your 210 temp reading... is that on factory gauge, aftermarket gauge or using some hand held temperature reader testing discharge side radiator tank?

As you said above stock V6 e-fan wired to run constant with key on. When you are seeing 210 temp, what is temp of air coming from fan (does it feel warm or cool)? With an e-fan running all the time, I would expect it to barely keep engine at thermostat temp.

Pic 1 is a jegs aftermarket gauge sensor ...fan was just tapped into to run at key start.

So at that temp, is the air discharging from the fan warm or cool? Is upper rad hose firm and warm to hot in temp?
