For INFORMATION PURPOSES:
Note: Got a hold of a original 17X9 Cobra wheel floating around at my work
(Ford Dealer) and I installed a 245/45/17 on that wheel (tire was also was also floating around)
And test fit that combo on my 1990 LX.
(note: I'm using 1986 Lincoln rotors up front and Ranger axles in rear)
I will need to get a 1/2 spacer and 3 inch studs since the Lincoln rotor does not "seat" all the way into the 03 Cobra Wheel.
I managed to install the Lincoln rotor on my car with no problems
It's a perfect fit.
I managed to install the wheel with the stock studs.
Yes the studs are too short! (Need 3" studs)
The lugs barely grabbed three threads on the stud!
Since I was only test fitting the wheel and not planning to drive it, it was ok.
I snugged up the lug nuts and lowered Mustang to get a good look at the clearences
With the wheel wells stock (1990)
The tire rubs the front splash shield and part of the fender extention.
Same as when turned the opposite way the tire rubs the rear part of the splash shield
My car is dropped a little over two inches
(I removed spring isolators: dropped about .5" + BBK springs dropped 1.5")
so the tire also came about 1.2" from hitting the top of the fender lip
When i turned the wheel to full lock left or right the wheel lip rubs the lower part of the control arm (not good)
Next I will test fit a 255 40 17 and will hope I will get a better fit since the total diameter of the tire will be shorter than the 245/24/17. (will fit that 9" wheel better too!)
I will keep postings of my results.
Questions and comments welcome!
