How do I use either one??

Checked my oil after making this post and realized it was 1.5 qts low....??? After only 1000 miles from the last oil change, would it have burned through that much oil??? I put in the Mobile 1 15,000 mile Extended life synthetic oil thinking that would be best for it at this point in its life. Gonna be pretty expensive if it keeps eating that much oil in so few miles....

Sometimes old motors burn oil faster w/ synthetic than organic.

But even though it burns more I should still be using synthetic, correct??

Do you have an oil spot where you live? Are you sure its eating the oil? Thats allot of oil to go through. You'd never need to change the oil at that rate. Your plugs didnt look like they had oil at all on them.

nope. no oil spot. I park my car over a carpet rug and that was the first thing I checked when I noticed how low the oil was.

Weird homes. Go a grade thicker, like if you use 10-30 then go 10-40. The whole synthetic/organic oil thing stems from the way they behave around old seals.
Maybe you forgot to put a quart in last time you did your oil change?

I know when I filled it I left it a half a quart low. I was told that when racing older engines you should run it 1/2 quart low on oil so it doesnt blow any of your seals or gaskets or whatever.... but thats all I left it at, no more/no less...
