testing cruise control parts, how do I?

I know everybody says check the buttons, the switch under the dash, servo etc. etc. What I would like to know is how to test those items? I tested the switches today with a voltmeter, got some weird readings. But Im not sure if I checked it right. What do I check for on the switch on the brake pedal? I did undo the cable from the throttle body and it seems to not be broken. Any wiring scematic links or anything would be excellent. I know somebody can help me, this cruise problem seems to be a common problem.

ps its not the fuse, I checked that already.

The switch on the pedal is actually a vacuum valve. Press on it and it open the vacuum to the atmosphere, effectively turning off the vacuum while it is pressed.

so if it is malfunctioning it should have no vacuum with the brake pedal not pressed? Would there be a hissing or something?

Is there a book or something that goes step by step through the process of diagnosing cruise problems?

No noise that I have ever heard. code 27 & 29 are also associated with non-functional cruse control

Dump the codes and see what the computer says is wrong…

Here's the link to dump the computer codes with only a jumper wire or paper clip and the check engine light, or test light or voltmeter. I’ve used it for years, and it works great.
