Are they emissions legal? I noticed they're pretty affordable, flow well, and can be had bare for around $950 bare (building on a budget), as opposed to the $1300 pricetag on some AFR 165's. Anyone running them? Do they require special headers because of the raised exhaust ports? I get paid friday, and it's also my next day off, so I'm probably going to be ordering a set if they're emissions legal.

They do not have egr ports. Yes, you need special headers since the exh port is raised 3/4". It might be tough fitting them with stock pistons though with a 2.02 inline valve.

Yeah, I was sorta thinking there would be piston to valve issues with a 2.02 intake valve, but figured the only way to know for sure would be to check once I had them in hand. It's definitely good to know that they aren't emissions legal though, that'll save me the hassle of buying them in the first place. It just sucks that now I'm back at square one, looking for a decent price for a good set of heads, without breaking the bank. Thanks for the heads up man.

you can get some twisted wedge heads for cheaper and you dont have to worry about the valve clearence to a certain extent with the 2.02 cause valve angle is different but if you run a pretty aggresive cam I would make sure to clay the pistons before you fire it up.

I vote TW heads for ya, they only 1050 shipped from mustangwarehouse. And all your stock stuff (headers , intake etc) can be reused. Terrific buy...IMO

only thing with the TW is you have to change pushrods and rockers.....that can add pretty quick or at least I think it does.Personally I would look in to the edelbrocks. I dont think they are much more than TW and you can get pedistal mounts. As to his original post, he said 950 bare.....thats not that great a price. by the time you put valves, springs, retainers, locks, and seals you are really talking some $$$. Good Luck!

you have to change pushrods and rockers with edlebrocks too

the old school highports are amazing heads. i wouldnt put them on a 302 though unless you are going to rev it

get the twisted wedges.

i like the real street prepped twisted w3dges that AFM sells, no porting, just an amazing valve job

Don't forget you have to use stud rockers, hardned pr's, and guide plates with these heads.

Also, the stock springs may need to be upgraded on these heads.

Truth is ...... The stock springs that come on most heads can be suspect from time to time depending on the use of the combo.

I'm really not trying to knock the TW heads here .................

Just wanted to show there is a bit more to getting any set of heads than it first appears to be.

Holy thread revival!
I'm not totally sure of the differences, but I know the exhaust ports are raised, for more of a straight shot to the exhaust valve for increased flow and performance. FWIW, I went with the TFS-51400004 heads with the upgraded double valvesprings and 10 degree locks.
