The Official NCAA College Football Thread

it's ok, tony. i disagree, obviously. i dont think ou has faced a very hard defense yet, but they will on the 8th... but at the same time, UF has not faced an offense THIS good yet, so it should be interesting

Florida is going to beat OU, take Florida and the 3 points. Its a lock.

Oklahoma is going to choke in the big game like normal. If anything Texas should have been given the nod to the Big 12 title game since they actually win their BCS games.

When you play against the best competition in College Football, you have a 50/50 chance of winning/losing. Thats why they play the games. Im not sure why you consider it "choking." I sure you know this also....but football is a game of emotion, and it is tough to get motivated for a game, that you dont care about playing in. (Boise St. 06' and West Virginia 07') And its even tougher to win the game when you arent motivated to play...and the other team sees it as the most important game theyve played in their entire life. That neutralizes the difference in talent on the field.

A lot of people gave LSU no chance against Oklahoma since before their Big 12 Championship game they had pretty much declared them "Team of the Century". Same as last season against Ohio St. Say what you want but the SEC top teams play a different brand of football. I'm not saying OU will get blown out but if Florida gets 2 TD's ahead it will be ugly. OU's best bet is to keep it close and be around at the end like Bama did in the SECCG.

Wasn't OSU a 3-4 point dog last year? '04 was a different story.

BTW, say what you want, but Saben did win you an unexpected title and lay the groundwork to pull in top talent that you weren't getting before he showed up.

No doubt but we always had talent. Saban just knows how to use it. It's why you see Bama back in the hunt.

If I remember correctly....7 of those 11 Defensive starters for LSU are now playing in the NFL. (Thats pretty strong)

Oklahoma was also a somewhat 1 dimensional team in 03 (passing) Add to the fact that Okahoma QB Jason White was playing with a broken foot, from the previous game against Kansas State, it didnt look good. The entire State of Oklahoma is still pissed about White staying in the game, and not letting a 100% healthy Paul Thompson give it a shot. It is still a topic of dscussion here on Sports radio, on how letting Jason White stay in the game against LSU, is still one of coach Stoops biggest mistakes as ahead coach here at Oklahoma.

They play solid smash mouth defense, but they are also playing defense against neoanderthal like offenses, that are easy to defend. I think one thing you are going to see, is that the defene/offnse argument between the 2 conferences is blown wayyyy out of proportion.

Florida argues that Oklahoma only has good offensive numbers becasue nobody plays defense in the Big 12. Well....the numbers are once again a cause and effect of each other. Oklahoma scores so many damn points, that it gives the opponant that many more possessions, to get yards/points. So, it skews the defensive stats.

Likewise Florida says that Oklahoma has never seen a defense as good as theirs based on stats. Thats great and all...but once again..its a product of Florida playing in a conference that (for the most part) still runs old school offenses, that rely on ball control, and possession offense.

It should be a great game. Im not sure which way its going to go. But, Im heading down to Miami, for the 3rd time since 2000...and I'm pumped!!!!!

You were getting the top level talent with DiNardo?
Saban won in 03 with Dinardo's talent. He was hired in 2000.

Whatever makes the OU faithful feel better. :D

Tell that to Miami, Notre Dame and Ohio St. LSU beat them 40-3, 41-14 and 38-24 respectively in bowl games. I guess you are right though since we didn't score 50+ in those games.

All that proves is Bob Stoops cant motivate the troops. If you cant get up for BCS game you dont deserve to go.

I mean OU didnt really even show up for either title game. USC wasnt close and LSU handled them much more than the score would indicate. They shut OU down and 7 of those points were a 2 yard drive after a blocked punt. The other 7 was a 30 yard drive. Yes their two scoring drives, totaled 32 yards. LSU mistakes gave them all their points.

Losing to Boise State when they probably had 1 or 2 playes who would even make the OU roster is inexcusable in a bowl game. Its not like OU wasnt talented and its not like a regualr season game when you have a week to prepare for a quirky offense. Stoops had over a month to prepare.

I will give you the WVU game, they were on an emotional roller coaster and had some awesome offensive playmakers.

I guess we will see if OU getting in over Texas was the right call or not.

Theres alot of truth to that statement.

I attended both games, and unfortunetly remember them like it was yesterday. In the USC game, Oklahoma was out coached, out schemed, and flat out got their butts beat. And USC had the better athletes on both sides of the ball.

The LSU game is still one that Stoops is constantly taking heat from the local media here in Oklahoma. (Even more so, than the USC loss) Mainly for not giving a 100% healthy QB, a chance to run the offense. Sticking with Jason White during that game, was one of the most bone headed arrogant moves Stoops has made while at Oklahoma. If you take a one dimensional passing offense, and then handicap the QB by him not having the ability to move around in the pocket....its gonna be bad. Add to the fact that youre facing LSU...coached by one of the best defensive minded coaches in the land (Saban)......you're done. Im almost surprised they scored 14. But as bad as they played...they were still throwing into the endzone with a chance to tie it up, or take the lead late in the game.

This one is the easiest to explain actually. And it probably goes back to your first statement about Stoops' motivation. From 02' to 06' I spent alot of time around the University, and was pretty close to a couple grad. assistants. If you remember this is the year, that OU lost its starting QB (Rhett Bomar) a week before the summer practices. (Payment scandal) Well, the entire year, this team worked their asses off, to be better. (Then got screwed in a loss at Oregon, and got beat by Texas) When they found out, that they had worked so hard this season, and instead of being rewarded by a big time bowl matchup....they were extremely deflated when they found out they were going to face Boise in a bowl game. Thye didnt take any of the practices seriously. The media, was trying to hype up Adrian Peterson being able to back for this game, but AD...didnt even want to play. Only reason he suited up, was because he had a chance to become the all time leading rusher at Oklahoma. Coaches struggled the entire month to get the team focused on playing. In a nutshell...they didnt care. On top of all that, combine the fact, that they had the mindset, that they can just show up and win....... Thats a recipe for disaster, when the team you are getting ready to play, has already stated that this game will be the most important game that the College, or the State of Idaho has ever been involved in.

I give you the WVU game, they were on an emotional roller coaster and had some awesome offensive playmakers.

Im glad that you recognize that emotion does play into the outcomes. Although somewhat similar to the Boise game, alot of the Oklahoma athletes think they can just show up and win, simply becasue they have OKLAHOMA written on their chest. Which once again, comes down to motivation. But when it came down to it....Playing the game without 6 starters, (4 of which are now starting in the NFL) was too much to overcome. Once again.....they got their butts beat.

we will see if OU getting in over Texas was the right call or not.

I think it was the right call. Sitting in the stands at the OU/Texas game, even after the loss, I thought OU was the better team. Alot of breaks that could have gone either way...went Texas's way. (Mainly the loss of LB Ryan Reynolds) But, we'll never really know, until the OU/FL game.

Sorry, for the long/boring post...but I know what Oklahoma's reputation is across the Country, for not being able to play in these games. But at the same, time, I know that there is alot that goes on behind the scenes that you dont get from national media leading up to the games. And for each of these losses, there was (in my opinion) several determing factors. There is no excuse...they got beat. But, I have analyzed, and over analyzed this team this year, and I dont find any of the issues, that I saw before in those previously mentioned games. If theres anything I've seen from the current Stoops staff/teams, is that they play to the level of theior competition. When they hear for weeks on end, that they are the best team around...they believe it...and go out...and go through the motions. But, when they are questioned, and doubted, or have heard for several weeks in a row, that they dont even belong in a game.......they play with their backs against the wall, and come out swinging for the fences. Believe me...right now, all they hear is that they dont belong. And thats a GREAT THING!!!!!!!

Poor Jason...

Side note...that is Marquise Hill may God rest his soul. He was killed in a wave runner accident in New Orleans during the NFL off season following his rookie year.

Thats a very big blow to the Oklahoma offense. There are other serviceable players that can play...but he is the homerun threat. Not only as a running back, but also the kick returner. This is starting to look like last years game against West Virginia, where OU lost 6 starters in the month leadin up to the game.

Hopefully Moses Madu can step up, and fill his shoes.

DAMMIT!!!

Things are starting to fall apart. Athletic Dept. just announced that starting Defensive Lineman Demarcus Granger will not play in the BCS game, and will have back surgery.

2 Starters down, in the last 2 days. This is really starting to look alot liek last year, when they lost 6 starters going into the West Virginia game.

Oh, what I would give to see Oklahoma play at 100%.
