I still have a pinging problem at high speeds,,when going up hills !! I just noticed today(havent washed it in 4 days!) the tips of my lx chrome tailpipes are black,,whats that mean?

How can you tell if egr is working? My timing is at 10 degrees,,I know I shouldnt need 93 octane,,but if I dont it pings worse.PRO50SC said:It's runnin' too rick. If you pull your plugs, they'll probably be black as well.
Is your egr system working and where is the timing set at. Also, what grade of gas are you using?
Trace the vacume line backwards starting at the egr valve. It goes to the egr solenoid and then to the vacume source. Make sure you have vacume at the feed line to the egr solenoid. Then connect a vacume gauge, if you have one, to the hose at the egr valve. Rev the engine, you should see vacume. If not, the problem could be the egr solenoid or the ecm is not sending the command to the solenoid to cycle it on and off.willys1 said:How can you tell if egr is working?
