Well after searching a lot for this question, I have seen multiple different answers.
Now I have heard a rumor that 90-92 were the only years that had forged pistons.
but what about 87-89?

I know that 86 came with flat tops, and 93 came with hypers.

Forged pistons started in 85 with the 4v carb'd HO and went until mid-year 92.
I am pretty sure the 85 had a roller cam, and the forged pistons started the same time the roller cam did.
Now that I think on it a bit this sounds right, don't know what the hell I was thinking

Forged pistons and roller cam from '85-'92. All 5.0L OHV engines (including the Cobra) after '92 got hypereutectic pistons after that. Crank and rods and blocks were the same in all.

ive seen some late 92s with hyperutectics in them back in the day. the rumor was the black oil pans were hyperutectic and the grey oil pans were forged. doesnt matter anyway, the hyperutectics are still stronger than the stock block.
