Sorry about this stupid question, but I couldn't find an answer to it in any of the threads.

I'm installing a new Mr. Gasket thermostat. The Mr. Gasket instructions AND the Hayne's book instrustions say that the thermostat goes into the block first, then the gasket goes on, then the housing. This effectively "pinches" the gasket between the flange on the thermostat and the housing.

Looking at the gasket that I removed, it appears that the stock gasket went on first, then the thermostat, then the housing. How did you install yours? Thanks!!

Go to NAPA and get one of their self-adhesive t-stat gaskets. You set the t-stat in it's housing, peel off the stickum side of the gasket and it effectively holds the t-stat in place while you install the housing. This saves you from the dreaded "thermostat pinched between the housing and intake" leak.

BTW, lots of people have trouble with the aftermarket housings leaking like a SOB. You might want to reconsider your course of action here.
