Was in a pipe yard waiting to load yesterday in Houston Tx. There was a clean, low miles 1980 Granada sitting in the yard that belonged to one of the guys working there. He'd bought it in Kentucky from a senoir citizen with low miles on it. We talked a few minutes about the disc brake swap to older Stangs, when I got down and looked under the rear of the car. WOW!!! Had a 9" rear with drums. First one I'd seen. I told him if he ever sold or wrecked the car, don't let the rear and front discs get away. This was a 4 door, 6 banger car with leather seats. Two tone bronze and brown. Pays to look under all the Granadas and Monarchs, you never know what's under them.
Oh well, it would be a nice surprise to find in a junkyard.
I think the reason behind that 80 model with a 9 was to use up the stock from the Versailles line. These rears didn't work under any other later model Fords. Too narrow for the pickup line and all the cars went to 4 link suspensions after 80.
