think i should go ahead and swap my rearend??

ok my project consists of 3 parts
motor rebuild
t5 swap
and rearend swap (rebuilt with 3.90s)

should i just go ahead and do it, i talked to my shop class teacher and it shouldnt be too hard, i'll have a lift and all the tools i need.

i am just afraid i will spoil it since thats where most of my sotp will come from when i get my project done.

or will a t5 swap and a new fresh motor make a big difference???

so wait it out and do it all at once, or get it done now??

Why wait?

The rear axle swap, assuming the gears are already done, is the easiest of the mods you list.

Should take between 4-6 hours. I have 4 axles in the garage, and swap every so often for one reason or another, and then back again.

It will give you a chance to see the effect of gears, as well as a chance to get all the little things, like speedo gears, figured out.

Do it now if you can. Why would you wait to do it all at once? That'd just mean a longer down time and a bigger work load all at once for yourself..

yeah i think i'll do it, i talked to the teacher today and i can probably get it in there after next week, were out of school 2 days next week, were in the class for like 4 hours. So i should be able to do it all within 2 days....

i'll have tools also, like the tools for drum brakes since i'll have to swap mine over....

also, what kind of fluid do i put in there??

You need gear lube in there. I went with Royal Purple 75-90.

WAIT A SEC does that mean you have a disc rear end? if so you should consider swaping 4 wheel disc.

Swap the rear end now..just one less thing to worry about once you dig into the rebuild and tranny swap. Likely once your half way through the t-5/motor overhaul you'll be wishing the rear was already done so you can just get the car finished. Make sure to have a fresh trac-loc rebuild and bearings done at the same time...you don't want to have to open up the pumpkin too often, it's a pain in the butt, and the smell...well it sticks around for a while.

well the rearend is already rebuilt, with 3.90s installed, so all i need to do it bolt it up.

and its a drum rear.....

Always sounds easy..but like with everything mustang related keep a "parts fund" available and don't go in expecting quick and easy..it's a ford. Likely bushings will need to be, or should be replaced (axle and possibly upper and or lower control arm bushings), and most often the bolts for the control arms need to be replaced. Good luck and enjoy..it's all in good fun.
