Thinking about cleaning my engine out, anyone hear of this?

i change the oil every 5k i will prob start at 3k since it has 80k miles on it now and the other mornig at start up i noticed just a lil smoke but it only last for a couple seconds ...

If your on this web site then I don't see people not changing there oils regular. Its nice to remember the past b/c thats what our cars were based on:), but, I wouldn't go put anything that close to gasoline in my engine:nono:, although gasoline and diesal fuel are decent lubricants they are still hydroscopic and will suck in water from the the surrounding areas, as do oil if you let the oil sit long times. Test this your self, do you know a junker someone dosn't want, don't do this to your car though:nono:. Which brings up a question, what the hell is in Sea Foam, anybody know?

Never trusted any of that stuff. I use Mobil 1 and change it every 3500 miles. Still fairly gold when it comes out and I am sure I could run it longer but I love my car and its cheap. Car has 100K on it now and dont leak a drop and looking down the oil fill hole I can see my head is very clean inside. In a couple weeks I am swapping the valve covers so I will get to really inspect it.

My 96 Cobra spent its whole life only getting Mobil1 or Valvoline full synthetic and at 120K I removed its valve cover and its heads were perfectly clean with NO sludge or discoloring from cooked on oil. :nice:

Same here. My car has had nothing but 5w-30 full synthetic Valvoline since mile 0 (I asked the original owner before I bought it). I change it every 5000 miles or so. No problems at all. Heads were perfectly clean when I did the PI cam swap at about 90,000 miles.

My dad has gotten almost 500,000 miles out of his old work van (still driven by my brother now) on the original motor with none of this additive stuff. 10w-30 Valvoline every 5k, and voila! So that's what I'm gonna do. :nice:
