I'm thinking about getting the M-6090-X302 GT-40 valvetrain for my GT-40P heads... does anyone have reasons why I should or shouldn't, and if I shouldn't, any suggestions for a different/better kit? I'm getting paid Friday, so I think I'm gonna get the heads machined next week, and get them ready to be installed within the next couple of weeks, anticipating the delivery of my Typhoon intake.

It doesn't really tell ya too many specs on it, but they're 1.94 intake, 1.54 exhaust valves, and the guy I talked to on the FRPP tech line said the springs will handle around a .560 lift, and I don't plan on that much lift. Does this look like a good kit? It's the same kit FRPP uses in their X & Y303 heads.

I don't see valve specs - the GT40 heads came with 1.85" valves. If these are in fact 1.94" valves, you'll have to get machine work done to accept them.

I'd have to get them machined anyway, since the GT40Ps come with like 1.84 intake, 1.46 exhaust, but that was what I had been planning. My intake should be here within the week, so all I should be pretty close to joining the happy bunch of modded Mustang owners

Ah - missed you had P heads. Mine have the 1.85 intake and 1.55 Exhaust Manley valves with undercut stems.

How do you like the "P" heads? I've seen people running mid-low 12's with them (I'm not being quite so optimistic myself). I got mine for next to nothing, so I figured why not?

I like them a lot. I have a problem with track times - I have a vert and don't have a roll cage for quicker than 13.9 and I know I'll run quicker. I'm not puttin a cage in just to run at the track. I have a VC-200 performance computer (an upsacale G-Tech) and I know what it'll run at the track.

You have to have the chambers hogged for the larger valves. A few reputable sources have said that you may want to be careful about going too big with the valves since the P heads rely on a fairly high port velocity to make power. I'd check out the following link and see what kind of info you can find there before investing in that particular valvetrain.

I've seen the Stangpro site before, but not Mouse's DIY porting page. Lots of good info there. I still think it might be a worthwhile investment to buy those valves, and just do a marginal cleanup of the ports, just *in case* i may decide to add a power adder later on
I am thinking however of piecing a valvetrain together vs. buying one already complete, so I could possibly save a little money, but keep it around the same specs as the FRPP set (gotta do some investigating). Thanks for all the help guys, keep the suggestions coming, I'm definitely open to them. I'm not completely sold on the GT40P's however, if I could find maybe a set of like some World Products Windsor heads, or something similar (from what I've seen, they were pretty cheap, with good flow numbers).

Well think about it: by the time you've spent the money on a valvetrain, machine work and porting, you could have sold the heads on ebay and used the money you were going to spend to pick up a set of AFR's for a few extra $$$. Is that an option for you?
