Hello, I am thinking about this setup for a budget street car build. Currently my car is completely stock but I am planning on getting 3.73 gears within the next couple of weeks and then this H/C/I in a couple months

Edelbrock E-Street #5023 Heads
Edelbrock RPM Intake
TFS 1 cam

Do you think this combination of parts will work well together? I am hoping to get around 260-280whp it just needs to be DD friendly. I was thinking about using the Edelbrock performer cam #2122 but havn't heard much about it, does anyone hear use it? How do you like it? Or do you think it would be worth it to just get a custom FTI cam?

That is a horrible combination IMO. Your best bet would be to look for some used AFR heads or Trickflow twisted wedge heads. Get you a Edelbrock RPMII intake and have Jay Allen grind you a camshaft once you have everything. I had Jay grind me one when I had a stock shortblock and the car cammed hard enough to make people inside a store look outside and I could still cruise at 1,300rpms in 5th gear without the car bucking. Stay away from Edelbrock heads unless they are the CNC ones. That is my opinion. No one makes a better intake than Edelbrock though.

the rest of the combo isn't too bad but those heads are a no. either afrs or twisted wedge. those heads are too small to really grow. take it from someone who knows small eddy heads

I won't bash those heads yet as I know they are a brand new casting from edelbrock and they come in under $1000 for the set if I remember correctly. They are an entry level head, but I haven't seen any flow data from them yet. I know they have a 170cc intake port though. If I had to run those heads I'd put an edelbrock performer intake on it, a set of long tubes, and a cam that made peak power in the 5500rpm range. It'd a good mild street setup that should hit all of your goals. I'm running an FTI cam and I can't say enough great things about Ed.

You'd want stud mount AFR 165's with the 58cc chamber. Don't buy pedestal mount heads as stud mount are easier to adjust, setup, obtain proper geometry, and have less defelction under higher spring loads and engine RPM.

185's use a 2.02" intake valve and you will have piston to valve clearance issues with them on a stock shortblock. I ran 165's on my stock shortblock and for a while on my 331. They are a great head.
