Thinking of going to the track for my first time next week

So I am thinking about going to the track by my house next week, probably wed at Infineon raceway if anyone's interested in going too.

Any helpful hints from veterans would be much appreciated, my car is stock besides the custom mid pipe I had fabed up.

I can't spend any money on tires and such right now, just want to have a good time racing without breaking my car.

The thread liner should read "Thinking of going tothe Track for the first time and getting Hooked for life" for once you jet down that raceway you'll long to return...lol.

what size track is the raceway 1/4 or 1/8 mile?

Exactly sick2v! Once you go down that track you start to look at you paychecks like how can I mod the car this week. Is your car mani or auto? If auto wait for the 3rd yellow to hit and go. If 5 speed hold at around 2500 to 3000 and slip the clutch till you feel it start to hook and bang some gears. Remember with street tires do not do a big smoky burnout because it will be worthless because the tire compound will not heat up and stick. Just a little one to get the rocks off the tires will do the job. Good luck, be safe and have fun.

Lol, I'm not sure but I think that track is about 2 and a half miles long.

Its a 1/4 mile track.

Car's a five speed, but should I air up, down tires right now are about 27 psi

I like to run the fronts at maximum psi and the rears at 20psi at the track on street tires. Good luck!

Oh and the 16 the track is closed but plan on being there the 23rd.

Now I was looking at the rules and they said any car running faster the 14.00, driver has to wear a helmet. My car in basically stock form, ever with a driver mod the car couldn't do that right, if it will, wear would a good place to get a helmet from?

A pi car with a off road xpipe is more then able to break into 13s

I wouldn't worry about getting a helmet yet. Since you have basically a bone stock car, 13's will be hard to do in the summertime and it being your first time out. More than likely if you did get in to the 13's, they will give you a warning.

BTW, are you going to take your system out of the car?

I don't have any subs in the car anymore, took them out and sold them because I wanted the truck space. I don't really plan on removing anything such as spare or back seat because I know this might be dumb. But I kinda want to see what a full trimmed out car with almost a full tank can run. That way, I will be able to see what improves my time and what was just a waste of time.

I dont wanna sound negative, but your first time down the track is going to give you jitters. The best i did going down the track the first time with a basically stock 2v was 14.8 the first time, ( i forgot the traction control switch on), then 14.3, then finally 14.0 flat. But as someone stated earlier, its a FUN sport, but, it also becomes an EXPENSIVE sport.....once you start breaking stuff.

Dang. A 13.99 helmet rule? That's a little strict. My track rule for helmets is 12.99, and they don't really enforce it unless you are running low 12s or faster.

My advice: don't expect anything, and just have fun (you will, guaranteed). And no matter how much reading you do online or advice that is given to you, you WILL be nervous the first several passes down. Don't sweat it. Just get out there and go through the gears. Worry about times and improvement after several shake down passes.
