this is a first for me

well i was checkin my oil last night and it was alittle low, no big deal. so i went take the oil cap off and it was alittle tight, and while i was trying to unscrew it the damn thing broke off in my hand.... the threaded part is still in the valve cover and it sticks up maybe a 1/16" of an inch. dosnet leak of spray everywhere but now i cant put the oil in it needs..........
so uh..any ideas how to get this son of a bitch out?

take of the valve cover off for starters, then you can work on it more. vise grips?

yea i figured i would have to pull the valve cover, damn everytime i get ready to fix one thing another breaks...err
oh well ***** happens i guess

I wouldn't jump the gun and take the valve cover off just yet. Surely there must be a way to turn it with channel-lock pliers or vice grips. It really shouldn't be on that tight. If not, I'd try drilling a small hole near the outside (not through it, so that plastic bits don't get into the engine) then use a small punch or screwdriver with a hammer to try and unscrew it by tapping it. Good luck

You could also be lazy and take the half-@$$ed approach of unhooking the pcv hose from the filler neck and adding oil through that orifice using a funnel and a piece of hose.

well its tight, very tight. it broke because i was appling so much force to unscrew it. hope that **** isnt stuck down in there.

what about cutting a slit in it and using a screwdriver (one with a large, or at least wide bit)... but if you go all the way through, you could accidently get crap in there.

i've never removed the valve cover, but i'd probably do that.

How about drilling 2 holes 180 deg apart...put pins in them and use a screwdriver across them to turn the mother out??

I had this problem before as well, inside the cap at the bottom there are some notches that give the cap the rachet sound when it is tightened too far. I used a screw driver or a pair of needle nose pliers and wedged down in there to turn the cap.

usually what we run across at the shop is the o-ring seizes to the cover/filler cap one way we have had to get them out is to break (by what ever means necessary) the top portion of the filler cap off to where you can get acess to the o-ring and pull it out. usually once it is out the remaining threads will spin off with ease....then the remainig threads usually go sailing!!!!!!!!!!! hope this helps good luck

allright while at my dads today i got it out with some channel locks. wasnt to hard to get out so that was cool.
and sorry for no pics my dog chewed up the usb cable for my camera

oh yea also noticed today that i have a small oil leak coming from my oil pressure sending unit

thats the stupidiest thing i have ever heard... they may to retarding things like that in canada... but here in the usa... we do things right...

hahaha ouch!

I made a mistake. To make this a truly canadian fix, you'd have to duct-tape the hose to the filler neck and use a beer can as the funnel. But you could also poor oil into the open part of the broken cap and light it on fire to melt it away.

For the record, this is all BS. Canadians never do this kind of stuff before the southern rednecks try it first. Only then can a method be tried, tested and true

Ok, if it's such a stupid idea, care to explain yourself...

here on stangnet, people don't like bashing others... especially when there is no argument to back it up.

In a pinch, I don't see why this wouldn't work even though it's a little thrown together. I mean, I wouldn't do it and just take the valve cover off if needed, but in an emergency
