One of the mechanics bought a broken generator from a guy, planning on rebuilding it. It's a 16hp Briggs and Stratton V-twin. The guy didn't know what was wrong with it, it just quit one day. So him and I took the motor off the generator, and pulled the crankcase cover off, and this is what we found.

Bottom of the crankcase, with the pieces of a connecting and main bearings just chilling.

Some pieces of the camshaft and gear, it snapped into 4 pieces, the other piece is still in the block.

The piston sleeve and piston with a chunk taken out of them. You can see the rest of the camshaft in the upper left corner.

The guy said he bought the generator used, and had checked the oil, but never changed it. :nonono:

Make sure to always change your oil!!

yeah i kinda did something like that to a log splitter. I assembled the thing. put oil in the motor, but didn't put enough in. there was a nice golf ball sized hole in the block after it blew out. it was pretty cool to see, but it sucked regardless
