Are you loving it, or have you had problems with the colder thermostats?

i got the 180 degree thermo and it runs about one full letter cooler on the NORMAL scale. which is a good thing since i live in Texas. overall its a good mod and only cost $5.

I'd like to go with the Hypertech 160 along with their Programmer III tuning. I had trouble with *pinging* even under real light part-throttle usage on a 98 F150 using Hypertech Programmer tuning and it seems like they must tune for a colder thermostat setting? Just didn't want to have the same pinging problem on the Mustang.

I'll try the 160 and see if it destroys my gas mileage.

Why would it effect your gas mileage? Does not make since to me.

i have a 180. 160 is too much of a temperature variance from stock imo.

I heard somewhere that a colder thermostat will give the car a rich air/fuel mixture, making the gas mileage go down.

A cooler thermostat than stock will not let to car go into closed loop most of the time(all the time in cool atmosphere), this will not allow the computer to go into closed loop and use the sensors to maintain a 14.7 AFR durring cruise. This is why and how gas milage goes away.

I have 180, and would go no lower, one because of what GT black said, or as i call it, "warm up mode" I don't know of any programmers that will set the temp lower other than just changing fan temp. The other is my car is my daily driver and in ohio i need a hot heater in the winter. stock about burnt my leg hair off and the 180 is hot but not scalding, I heard a couple complains of people who have 160* in cold weather and complained that it just never got warm.
