Those who have degreed a cam: not asking how to...just asking what to do?

OKAY...PLEASE READ ALL (VERY IMPORTANT STEP )...

FTI h/c/i swap...

This is from the front of the wheel...

I put my dial indicator on the lifter...

(middle) TDC - BTDC (right)

@.050 lift I got a reading of 3* (closer to 4* than 3*...this is to the right of 0*) and my cam car shows open at 5* BTDC...so know what do I do...advance or retard it 2 degrees? do I even need to advance or retard...the reading is actually around 3.8*

Also a FYI (don't know if it matters)...but the reading was taken during the exhaust TDC? (not compression stroke)...if that matters? or makes the readings inaccurate...

Also Ed OUTLINED the 107 intake centerline that opens at 5* BTDC

The 109 opens at 3* BTDC as I got...(actually 3.8* closer to 4*)...

Is the 3.8* close enough to not advance or retard it or it would be in my best interest to do it...?

Hope that wasn't to confusing...ask me and I'll rephrase myself...

Hopefully somebody can answer me quickly because I'm ready to get it up and running :nice:

David

If it's only off by 1.2 degrees I wouldn't touch it. It could be just as much human error as anything else. I checked mine a thousand times and each time it was just a little different, .5* or less. Mine was 1*-1.5* retarded from the specs Ed gave and I just left it.

I'm just happy you understood what I was saying...I was starting to confuse myself...

Alright...you got a tip to keep that thrust washer in place when installing the timing chain...when I go to "hammer" it on...it falls off the back of the cam sprocket?...

Opinions still wanted...

Now alls I got to worry about is p to v clearance...it has .560 intake lift...and I know the lift doesn't matter just in itself...but that is alot of compensate fore...Ed told me I would be fine but will see...

Thanks,

David

I had TONS of clearance with my cam I have close to .550 on the intake. The duration was also pretty good. Just stick some moly lube on the washer and it will stick to the back of the timing chain.

Jake

That makes me feel a bit better going into it...I dont' know what I'll do if I have problems...

oh...I dont' have any way of measuring my "clearance" when I clay it...I think I'm going to "impravise" (sp?) and use my spark plug gapper?????

Thanks for the tip for the washer...

You have 325rwhp from cam, heads, and ported Performer...wow...thats good...I hope to hit 300rwhp...even though there is no dyno's around here...

Oh yeah...about me getting that timing chain on the other day...I hammered it on...went on pretty easily and went out and got a gear puller like you said and pulled it off... :nice:

Your NOT saying you have to use a HAMMER to get your cam to go into the block +++ RIGHT

Nope...to get the cam sprocket on the cam (already in car)...and I'm tapping it on...many do it...won't go on by hand...
