If you go with a supercharged windsor, I wouldn't waste time with anything taller than a 3.55. You're going to run out of gear with that much power if you go too tall. If you got the axle apart, now is the time to do it up right. Get the tubes welded to the pumpkin and all that mess while you have it apart. Rebuild the locker, or replace it, and put stronger axles in, and an axle girdle. Why waste money taking it apart twice?
It's not apart. The rearend is already setup in the car that I'm building. The only other option is the 273 rearend that's in my current Mustang, which I just sold the rearend out of so I don't really have any option!
i have had 3.73s and 4.10s, and 3.27s. as most of you know, i am a 100% street, daily driver type of guy with my mustang. here are my thoughts ...
4:10s (1996 GT): 1st gear goes by way too fast. cruising through the neighborhood ends up being a little too high for 2nd and a little too low for 3rd. 3rd gear is where it's at with these gears. 4th on the highway was about 2700 rpm for 70 mph. in all, they were not for me
3:73s (1995 GT): 1st gear is longer (not so useless), i can stay in 2nd in neighborhoods, 3rd is still alot of fun, 4th on the highway at 70 is more like 2300 rpm. much more to my liking.
3:27s (410 and AOD): 1st is a little dog like, but i can break the tires loose pretty easy. 2nd is fun, 3rd is really fun, 4th at 70 on the highway is 2000 rpm. i can go up hills at 60 in 4th turning 1600 rpm no problem. i'm thinking about going to 3.55s
with a blown windsor, i wouldn't go above 3.55s. just me.
