Throttle Body Decision

I was looking into a new throttle body and i have been told that the stock setup would work up until the engine was making more horsepower and needed more air flow. I was just curious as to what point and time i should look at upgrading to something larger. Kinda interested in the accufabs. But if you guys could tell me this it would be of much help because im lost. Car info in sig if that helps determine what i need to look into getting.

Please excuse my dumb questions... I'm pretty new to the mustang world and am just trying to make sure i get all my info straight. Wouldn't wanna waste money on stuff i don't need.

Hey, the man who asks questions is surely more wise than he who doesn't. We have all asked that question at one point. Many still argue that's it's a useful mod. But CFM charts show that your NA engine isn't really being restricted by the throttle body, although a 70/75mm will pick up a few horses and make the engine bay look nicer - but you wont be too enthralled about the power. About the difference of driving in 10-15 degree cooler weather.
I've done it, with plenum. But then again i've done every bolt on - and it's fun but leaves you wanting. Gears, manual shifter, suspension, wheels+tires, nitrous/supercharger/turbo, appearance mods are all good places to save money for.

IMO Don't waste your money on an intake! buy other things like gears, exhaust, and save up for a blower.

If I was to do it again, I would pass even though it was only $199 for a 75mm TB and plenum kit. I would also pass on a CAI. This is the list of things that you will notice a difference with and should get.

1. 3.73 or 4.10 Gears
2. Xcal 3 custom tune
3. Exhaust
4. Lowering springs
5. Aluminum drive shaft
6. Under drive pullies (if staying N/A)

Appearance mods just to set the car off, a mach1 grill delete and chin spoiler. Then just save for the Super Charger.

BLOWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stay away from tb & plenum u will not feel a difference....gears are great...i dropped .3 tenths of a second off my 1/8th time with gears

It all boils down to the right combonation of parts...and the addition of certain mods benefit from an addition of others. Increasing airflow is never a bad thing but you may not notice a TB/plenum combo on a NA car until you start pushing the HP higher. If you can get a plenum/TB combo for a good price go ahead. It is all pieces to the puzzle and it will benefit once you add more to it.

Your stock TB is good for a decent amount of hp. When you get a blower (if you go that route) then larger size is a good idea.

I tend to agree.
Some studies have shown 5-7 rwhp gains from the TB and plenium replacement. Not a lot but it's something...

Once you improve your exhaust system..... say an x- pipe and better flowing
mufflers the TB and plenum will compliment that.

streethorse, i'm running the off road x pipe now and putting some flowmasters on later this week as a matter of fact. i see in your sig that you went the same route you suggested as far as x pipe, exhaust then the throttle body. Any just overwhelming difference in hp at all? if not like suggested above i can always just get all the other bolts on and save this for the absolute last thing

No huge difference, but you will notice more hp especially at WOT.

You'll also notice a slightly different exhaust tone with the plenum/TB combo, nothing major like a o/r pipe but it's there.

if doing the combo, the upgrade is worth it for throttle response and the car does seem to breathe better..

BUT if you ever plan on going blown or getting an intake, pass on the plenum and just grab a T/B. Some kits replace the plenum with their own 1 piece unit.

If you know you;d be going with a non-KB style blower or any of the aftermarket intakes, then the plenum/T/B upgrade is worth the small coin, not for HP increase but for the throttle response and the noticable difference in the cars air intake.
