Throttle got stuck

I have a 2005 GT mustang and the throttle got stuck the other day. I have had this car for a while and never had this problem. I had no clue what was happening untill it was over. The car kept fish tailing all over the place, while I was breaking and then down the road did a 360 into on coming traffic. After the 360 I could break and went side ways into the sidewalk just bending my rim a little. I didn't even have time to think about turning the vehicle off or pushing in the clutch. It is at the shop trying to figure out what caused it. The only thing I did recently was apply the Bamachip race tune. Do you think a tune can cause the throttle to stick like that? Or is it more of a mechanical problem?

Our cars don't have a throttle cable per se, instead they use sensors to measure how far the pedal is pushed in. Most tuners can change throttle response with a tune (I know my Bamachips Race tune's throttle response seems about doubled).

That is weird being that throttle by wire systems have a no throttle fail safe. Perhaps some sensor is worn and in combination with the tune it failed full throttle

Got it back from the shop. I was told there was carbon build up on the sensors and around the throttle. He said it shouldn't happen again. I will apply the race tune back tonight and drive it for a while. We will see what happens.

Sounds like you may be over-oiling your air filter... I make it a point to remove my CAI and spray throttle body cleaner around the butterflies every time I change my oil or clean my filter. If you don't, you may get a build up around the butterflies. This happened to me a couple years ago, and fortunately my throttle didn't stick open, but it wouldn't idle at all...

It seems cleaning your throttle body regularly is something that is required of these drive by wire vehicles because of all the drive ability issues (some very dangerous, others more annoying than anything) related to dirty throttle bodies. I have read of people cleaning their throttle bodies at every oil change which is a great idea and what I will be doing from now on. I have cleaned my TB three times (in 40K miles) and it always is very dirty every time. My car always runs better when I'm finished.

I don't think you could have carbon build-up on the MAF sensor, could you?

No sure if he did, even if he did I wouldn't have known what he was talking about. Maybe he said it in a different way but I just didn't understand him. It is possible that I over oiled my airfilter about a 2 months before this.

Isn't there a special "non-buildup" tephlon like coating on the throttle body and upper intake?

I know my 2004 f-150 5.4l has that and there are always debates on the forums whether to clean them or not becasue the factory says that cleaning it will remove the protective coating.
