Throttle Problem???

So ive got a small problem. Whenever i push down on the gas there is about a 2.5second delay before the car will start to go.......some friends have told me it was the TPS.....if that is the proplem how might i go about fixing it? Its really annoyn.

If your car has the stock tune, then suggest installing an aftermarket tune to eliminate the throttle lag.

2.5 seconds? Sounds like a lot of delay. Haven't heard of any stock tunes that bad.

i just bought the car used from a toyota dealer, so im not sure how long its been goin on...... i can take it back to them but there a pain in the ass so im tryn to do it myself.

The throttle lag is common on stock tune stangs. I do think you may be exaggerating the 2.5 second time you claim, get a custom tune from bamachips and you'll have instant throttle response.

I counted to 2.5.....i know thats not completly acurate.....but today i went to auto zone to get the free vehicle diagnostic thing because the check engine light has been on since i got it.....the diagnotic said

Definition

"The IAC circuit condition or idle speed is higher/lower than expected."



Explanation

"The ECM has detected that the IAC counts are higher or lower than expected, the engine speed is not in its expected range."



Problem cause

1. Vacuum leak on engine
2. Dirty throttle body
3. IAC motor defective
4. Poor electrical conncetion to the IAC valve

I had this problem. It was the oil coming off of the after market air filter. If you have an after market intake, that could be the problem. Just take the throttle body off and clean around the butterflies. If you have a stock intake, I can't help you.

Here you go Soljer88, this will 'reset' your throttle position(as it is controlled via the computer).

Recalibrating your Throttle
Recalibrating the throttle by turning the key in the on position and pressing down to the floor ( total 3 seconds ) then release for 3 seconds.
1- Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine(dashboard lights come on and chime sounds).
2- After the chime stops, smoothly depress the gas pedal to the floor while counting 1001-1002-1003.
3- Release the gas pedal using the same procedure in 2. (total of 6 seconds pushing/releasing)
4- Wait 6 seconds, and turn the ignition to OFF.
5-Start her up and enjoy

**If it is really quiet when you do this, you can actually 'hear' the computer learning/resetting throughout this procedure.....there is a slight 'whine' when you push the gas pedal down/up(it sounds different the faster or slower you go), and 'clicking' sounds during the wait periods

What the two above me said. I'd get some MAF cleaner and TB cleaner, clean both and then recalibrate as explained above.
