Throw Out Bearing Retainer

i got a new clutch installed on my 93 mustang gt hatchback t-5 and they put in a new steel throw out bearing retainer for a 94-95 t-5 transmission, would this cause my clutch (spec stage1) to slip and eventually burn out, crack the flywheel with less than 2,000 on the new clutch any info will help thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! car is stock with flowmasters....

yes, indeed this could be a serious problem.

You say your car is a '93 right?

You say the retainer they put on is for a '94 right?

Here is the problem. The retainer for the '94 is different than you need for your '93. What is different? the one for the '94 is longer, because they changed body styles in '94 and moved the shifter hole back more. In order to move the tranny back they made the bellhousing longer, which in turn meant a longer input shaft for the tranny. It's not much longer, but that steel retainer in your car is sticking too far out, and probably interfereing with the clutch disk/pressure plate. Are you experienceing any noise?

If you don't believe me check out summit or jegs or anyone that sells the steel retainers. The break is '93 to '94

So if the information you provided is correct, that retainer is probably what caused the problems.

now i got a message from the shop saying that ford wont fix it cuz the 94-95 throw out bearing retainer is the right one for my 93. i was looking in a couple of my magazines that i got does ford even make a throw out bearing retainer for my year cuz all i see is aftermarket ones. now ford isnt trying to take the blame for *****in up my car :bang: so today imma go down to a couple of ford dealerships and try and get part numbers and go onto summit and print out the different part numbers for the 87-93 & 94-95 and see what they say any feed back will help thanks.

Ok, here is the information to prove those stupid bastards at your local Ford garage wrong. Here are THEIR Ford Racing Part #'s for the retainers, they ARE different from '93 to '94.

Ford Racing Part # for 1983 to 1993 V-8 Cars: M-750-A
Ford Racing Part # for 1994 to 1995 V-8 Cars: M-750-B

See what they say about that, the info is right here on their Ford Racing Website:
